2021 DOMI AWARDS RECIPIENT 12: ANIEKAN ESSIEN AKPAN

If humility and commitment married and gave birth, Mr. Aniekan would be the result. I have seen leaders but Mr. Aniekan is very unique.

The first time I personally took note of him was at a reunion meeting for old students of Federal Government College, Enugu where he served as the Assistant Provost and his humility was beyond impressive.

Mr. Aniekan is a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe university and who you’d call, a typical athlete. He’s a profession fitness instructor and the master mind behind the widely acclaimed FitNaija spanning years of positive impacts on many lives. He’s also a passionate basketball trainer with his team, T’Hawks & Sparrow Hawks. It wasn’t until recently that I found out he’s as well an impressive footballer. He is sports and sports is him.

But Mr. Aniekan’s awesomeness doesn’t stop at just sports; na, he’s also one of the most effective leaders you’d ever meet. He’s the current Chairman of the Federal Government College Old Students Association (FGCEOSA), Enugu Chapter. His leadership style is what you’d describe as endearing. Mr. Aniekan is someone that is so approachable and easily impressed. He is easy to relate with, and he doesn’t just act like he cares, he really does care. Tell Mr. Aniekan any issue you’re facing now and I kid you not; he’d be willing to fight tooth and nail to see you’re ok.

Personally, I’ve learnt a lot that has to do with leadership from him. One of the most admiring of all his qualities is his patience. His commitment to duty is something else worth emulating.

There are a lot to say about this young gentleman but time won’t be enough. He really is someone I would never ever forget in a hurry. That’s why it’s no mistake he’s one of the DOMI Award recipients this year.

With that, we’ve come to the end of this year’s DOMI Award Honourary Recipients. They would be officially awarded on the 11th of December, 2021.
