June sixteen,
A day for everyone under nineteen.
Should we talk about the need for education?
Or do we talk about the cost of education?
Should we talk about the good old days,
When eggs were sold for a Naira coin?
Or should we write on the topic,
“What can ten Naira afford in Nigeria?”
Every 16th June, we take the formation,
We march forward in a backward generation.
Eyes right, but all we think is left,
Our heart hides bitterness and theft.
We grow to witness series of government handover,
And we remember that these men were once children
Who picked up the baton, it’s a game of relay.
When they hand over, they hand over one thing to us,
The belief that Nigeria can never be fixed.
This thought is nurtured in our heart.
That politics is a game of deceit.
That government seat is at the centre,
The self center.
And we grow to build a decayed nation,
Cos we are the future generation.
It’s the day of African child,
Let their rights come even in a digital environment.
