Things don’t only happen in the hotel, in fact, things and things happen outside the hotel. Just like this one that happened. What did you hear about karma?
It was a beautiful Monday afternoon that the Lord had adorned with scorching sun. I just stepped out of the hotel to get roasted yam and beans to satisfy my one-week craving. As I stepped out of the gate, a tricycle with a broken windshield stopped in front of the hotel. There were few activities in the street; Conga Square is usually quiet in the afternoon, especially on working days.
The driver of the tricycle stood as if he was waiting for a customer. I hurriedly went to the junction to buy the roasted yam and beans. When I returned, he was still there. Out of curiosity, I decided to spy on him through the window of one of our rooms. When it looked like no one was coming, he hurriedly went to another tricycle parked not far from our hotel. I followed every one of his moves as he carefully removed the windshield of the other tricycle.
I didn’t raise an alarm, I just watched. He carried it to a part of the drainage covered with a little bush. I suspected he wanted to hide it there, then hang around, probably at night, he will come and carry it. I thought of raising an alarm, but then I decided that it will be wise allowing him to leave, then look for the owner and show him the hidden treasure. I smiled deep down as I imagined the disappointment he will face when he arrived at night.
Well, nature had another plan. GBIM! He fell on the floor. KAWALALA! The windshield broke. Many people rushed out thinking it was an accident. He too mixed up with the crowd as the owner of the stolen windshield wondered which enemy must have done this to him. I gently came down and narrated the whole story without conservation. Now he is going to buy a new windshield for the man and probably replace his own.
He didn’t read the version of the bible that says, “There is a way that seems right unto a man but the end thereof is destruction”. He took the way of the drainage and ended up destroying the windshield. He would have brought it into our hotel or probably looked for another way to follow. Indeed, the wisdom of man is foolishness unto God.
