YOUR VIEWS ARE NOT THE WORLD’S CONSTITUTION – Egwu Nnanna Echem

One of the biggest arguments of the decade is the argument of ‘Messi and Ronaldo’ and who the best footballer is. From professional sport pundits to enthusiastic football fans at random newspaper stands and viewing centers, you can practically stay for hours listening to people argue with data and facts only to laugh at how emotional it can get when one side seems to edge the other.

This is what happens when we latch intentionally to our own affiliations, beliefs, world views and refuse to look from the lens of others.

There was this popular illustration of 2 men on different sides arguing about a number. One said it was 6 and the other said 9. Until you zoom out before you realize they were both right.

Same applies to the world, your views are not the world’s constitution and it totally depends on what sides you looked from and what you see when you actually look. It takes a knowledge of mathematics to know that 1+1 may be equal to 2, but there are other numbers that when added are also equal to 2. So when I say 0.4 + 1.6 equals 2, I don’t mean yours is not correct.

So who is the GOAT (Greatest Of All Times) between Messi and Ronaldo? Well, it depends on who you ask.

  1. I like this. This is a good piece, Nnanna and with a catchy headline.
Some people hold believe so much in their personal opinion to a point where they start to see it as universal, ultimate. This applies in all facets of life issues not just sports. In the past, I used to get offended by such people but maturity has taught me to hear them out and smile. Needless stating my own views especially if I’ve sensed this person is not a liberal kind.
