Look at the gentleman in that picture, I know what you’re thinking; he’s a small boy. Just don’t go around saying that with confidence because this is one hell of a giant. I and James were course mates back in the University but we never spoke to each other till our final year in school. Even from the distance, James incredible personality was never hidden. He was one of the A-list students in my department but you’d never see him segregate.
If someone had told me that I and James would be as close as we are today, I would never have believed it. You see James is that kind of person in your class everyone just wanted to talk to. He knew when to be calm, when to talk and when to be reasonable. We became closer after we were selected to design our set’s yearbook. Trust me; I can never forget that period in a hurry. We were “locked” in the same room with one other amazing graphic designer and we kept working till the next morning; three days straight. Well, technically, I didn’t stay all through but at least, 2 days. That was when I had to meet the real James who coincidentally was my fan as I was his.
James Chimdindu is a Computer Engineering graduate, an extraordinary graphic designer, a programmer and an entrepreneur. He’s basically your typical tech nerd. If Nigeria had a replica Silicon Valley, I’m very sure he wouldn’t hesitate to move there and I have no doubt, he’ll be well known. He’s also a movie expert; his love for movies “no be hear o”.
A striking thing I like about James is his calmness and easy going approach even as a tutor. I can’t count how much I’ve disturbed this young man’s phone due to tech related issues and I kid you not; he always came through without a single iota of rudeness or being worked up. Let me try and paint the picture; I would call him and ask him about an issue, he’ll reply, if I encounter another issue, he’ll reply again and this might keep going on and on and on but at each time, you can never sense any form or irritation from his voice. Like, I don’t know how he does that. Some of what I learnt in CorelDraw this year was from him, and what I know now in Photoshop is also because of him.
Asides being a great tutor, he can also be a great learner. What he doesn’t know, he has no problem asking one who does.
Come 2021, we’re proud to announce that James will be joining our ever increasing list of contributors for the blog specially targeting graphic designers. We can’t wait.
